First off before I go deeply into all my picks and thoughts I wanna say that like everything Beane does it’s a success.
Diggs: yes yes Ik we didn’t have a first round pick blah blah blah I’m not talking about that. Beane said he could only get to 18 with what he traded for diggs, well he made the right choice because the top 3 choices for WR were gone by pick 17, although Minnesota went with Jefferson at 22 I would still gladly take diggs any day of the week.
AJ: due to my horrible spelling I’m not gonna butcher his last name (Thank god we didn’t draft Albert O) once a first round projection and the player many thought the Bills would take at 22 before the diggs trade. Getting him here was a great value and he doesn’t need to contribute right away he can learn from guys like Hughes and Murphy during camp and be that guy next to Ed and Harrison for years to come to hopefully wreck havoc on the AFC East Olines.
Moss: As much as I like yeldon as a 3rd down back he wasn't going to cut it behind Devin. Moss despite being 5’9” can be that combination of goal line back and a possible pass catcher who can run too. With the NFL going to a run by committee phase now (like Pittsburgh and others who have one two combinations) that’s what I envision moss and Devin to be for years to come.
Davis: Beane began day 3 with a bang. As much as I wanted AGG instead I couldn’t be mad at the Davis Pick here who has height and speed who can learn from Diggs,Brown, and Beasley all 3 who bring something different to the game. Davis doesn’t have any pressure to contribute right away but instead putting a lot of pressure on foster to earn a spot on this football team which is a great thing to have it means we are getting better at a position where we didn’t have much at compared to Allen’s Rookie season in terms of talent.
Fromm: Oh boy where do I begin at first I thought Beane lost his mind here. After calming down and doing some quick digging I quickly understood why we did this. Fromm probably has the best IQ of all QBs in this draft and was once considered a first round pick before the college football season began. Barkley isn’t going to cut it as a backup anymore look at the home pats game and week leading up to Tennessee if Josh was gonna play. With Fromm not only does he bring his IQ to the room (TO HELP JOSH) but he can definitely be a backup that fans won’t have to worry about god forbid anything happens to Allen short term and that we can be as confident with him in this offense as we are with Allen. Not to mention that the jets took a QB a round earlier and that we don’t have to worry about Fromm killing us in a pats uniform for the next x amount of year.
Bass: This was the pick where I thought Beane was playing fantasy football but just like the Fromm pick I’m really excited after research. There were times in the season were we went for it on 4th down when we didn’t need to or where we won by single digits when we really should have lost. I’ll start in order of the games, we begin in Tennessee (a game I attended which was hella fun and saw first hand) In all honestly we should have lost that game, the titans kicker won us that game and ultimately lost his job that next day. Cleveland, yes Ik we lost but we should probably have won it but kicking let us down. Dallas, as much as I like Allen putting his body on the line he doesn’t always have too especially this young in his career (granted we got the first down and scored on the next play) but with bass instead of Haush$ McDermott probably would’ve elected to kick instead of going for it then again trust the process we won that game pretty easily after. Bass has Allen arm just on his leg, he hit one from 50 yards NOT MOVING and apparently a 71 yarder but still he can kick from like the logo and still be fine which is something we need especially if we make a playoff run and our offense stalls (probably would have won the Houston game in OT we wouldn’t have even gotten that holding call). This is a total message to Haush$ and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if bass wins in camp (if we have one).
Hodgins: Oh Boy am I excited about this one now I didn’t think of us grabbing another WR but I’m happy we did. He can catch anything no matter where it’s thrown with his insane catch radius and height. Imagine in the red zone Diggs, Davis, Beasley, Hodgins with moss in the backfield with Allen in shotgun as a defense who do you cover and take a risk of putting your line backer on no matter what those 4 will have some kind of advantage and make life easier for Allen. Not to mention just like Davis he can learn behind the top 3 and not worry about contributing to this offense early and like Davis he will be putting pressure on Duke to make this team (I think Hodgins would’ve made that catch in Houston instead of Duke). I can’t wait for the potential future of DDH (Diggs,Davis,Hodgins).
Jackson: With the pick we acquired with diggs i think we went out with a bang here. Behind Tre we don’t have a clear number 2 (Ik Zach doesn’t like 7th rounders much yes I watched the YT video first) but I think Jackson could become our number 2 in the future. Like our WR picks Jackson does have any pressure to contribute early on as he can learn from White,Norman, and I guess Wallace but more from the first two. Both Norman and White knows McDermott’s system like the back of their hands by now and they can easily help out Jackson if they see him do something wrong. Did I also mention that he can do something that we have a hard time doing? Open field tackling, Jackson can easily wrap up runners in the open field which can help this already studded defense tremendously especially with the teams we have to face this season and bring this defense to a even higher level then it was once at.
I would love to hear your feedback from this past weekend and how you thought Beane did.
Hey thanks for the input!
Zack Moss is going to be fun to watch. Watched some tape post draft and he's a good runner, Gabe Davis is gonna make this team and contribute almost immediately if there's room for him. This draft just made me 1000% more times excited for the season!!
And if I'm not mistaken Isaiah Hodgins has like a 1% drop rate in college.. that's great considering drops were an issue last
With his catch radius I wouldn’t doubt it
I absolutely love the draft and what had transpired in Friday especially. Overall the team got better and that's all I can really ask for. It's all eyes on Allen
