UFC makes its way to Chicago this Saturday, June 8th, for one of the most stacked cards this year.
All I have to do to hype UFC 238 is to link this video. Watch it. Tony Ferguson vs Donald Cerrone is the people's main event. I could just watch this until Saturday honestly. Fuck! I'm pumped. I guess I should talk about the actual main events a little though?
Henry Cejudo vs Marlon Moraes
I think it's about time I give Cejudo his props. At a certain point I can no longer deny a mans win streak. Hes coming in hot off of wins against Demetrious Johnson, who is the GOAT at 125, and TJ Dillashaw who used to be my boy before he popped for roids. Cejudo came out swinging against Dillashaw which was surprising to say the least. If you haven't heard by now, Henry Cejudo is a gold medalist Olympic wrestler. Why would he stand up with anyone? Well because he's a UFC vet now and he has definitely rounded out his game a ton. Moraes is a whole different animal though. He has been on a tear lately knocking everyone out. I just hope Cejudo comes out swinging again and doesn't make an otherwise great looking card and fight into a snoozefest wrestlefuck match. Hopefully Moraes' takedown defense holds up for a few rounds and we get a KO.
Valentina Shevchenko vs Jessica Eye
There isn't much to say about this fight. Shevchenko's only losses in the last 8 years come from, in my opinion, the greatest women's fighter to date, in Amanda Nunes. She is a stud. She is durable, well conditioned and dangerous on the feet and ground. I'm not exactly sure where Jessica beats her but Eye's boxing is pretty crisp and hey!,iIt's fighting so anything could happen but Shevchenko is a safe bet to win this handily.
Tony "El Cucuy" Ferguson vs Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone
Ho. Ly. Shit. I. Am. In. For. This. Fight. I don't even know where to begin. I can't imagine how this fight wouldn't be the greatest fight of all time. Ok maybe not of all time but there is no way it's a boring fight. Right? Obviously I'm rooting for Ferguson but Cerrone is one of those fucking guys. He has a decent ground game to match Tony if it goes there and probably has better standup. Cerrone has been running through everyone in the last year and this fight scares me a little. Ferguson is very hittable and Cowboy is not someone who you want to be hit by. Add that to El Cucuy's recent home life drama and possible mental health issues I could definitely see this as the downfall of my boy. All that considered, Tony is going to merk Cowboy and set up a fight with Khabib for the true champ of the best division in the UFC.
Jimmie Rivera vs Petr Yan
Oooooo shit this card is just filled with potential. Yan is a super exciting up and comer and a fight vs Jimmie seems appropriate. Rivera is a stud but just hasn't come away with the right wins when it matters. This will be a hard fight for both guys and could for sure be a sneaky fight of the night. Don't miss this one.
Tai Tuivasa vs Blagoy Ivanov
Interesting fight at heavyweight. Tai is a very likeable guy and I'll be rooting for him. He is going to have to set up his jab early and keep touching Blagoy and keep him guessing. Blagoy is a strong counter puncher which is a dangerous thing at this weight. All is takes is one.
The Prelims on ESPN are no joke either. Tatiana Suarez is my pick for next girl in the mix for Strawweight contender and Aljamain Sterling vs. Pedro Munhoz has title shot implications in the Bantamweight division. Karolina Kowalkiewicz vs Alexa Grasso should be another great fight to sort out the Strawweight division right after Calvin Katter fights Ricardo Lamas, which has the potential to be the KO of the night. Calvin Katter looks to keep climbing the ranks while Lamas tries to stop the skid and climb back up to the top. I could not be more excited for this weekend and if you're at all interested in fighting you cannot miss this weekend.
