Week 9 Fantasy Perks

Down week for the Bills, coming out of week 8 with only their second loss on the season. I know Bills fans are ready to burn down One Bills Drive, but y'all, it's okay. If the Bills loss compounds with a fantasy loss, well, hopefully I can come and help you catch that win this week. I want to apologize for my homer pick of the week for Week 8, I wasn't anticipating Buffalo to make McKenzie inactive for the game. But, that's the nature of the beast I suppose. The Falcons, Bengals, Rams, and Saints are on bye this week, and there are some big names not playing this week. Let's dive in.

At this point in the season, the waiver wire is scarce of talent, especially at QB. You know what you're going to get out of most guys at this point in the season. I'm trying to find the one guy that can catch lightning in a bottle, and perhaps carry you to fantasy victory. I know this may seem crazy, but I like Ryan Fitzpatrick this week against the Jets. It's a home game for Miami and it's the second week in a row that the Jets will have traveled to Florida. It's still hot down here (it was in the 90s today) and the weather will be a factor. I know the Dolphins are in full tank mode, but from their past two performances, it still looks like the players are competing. Fitzpatrick has been doing serviceable the past two weeks, and I think it will be a shootout with the Jets. I may even double down a say that the Dolphins are getting their first win this week.

When looking for a mid season pick up at running back, you want someone who can catch the ball out of the backfield, especially in a PPR league. Last week, this player got some late snaps that turned into 4 catches for 24 yards, and he had a 10 yard run. Doesn't seem like much, but I see more work for Dontrell Hilliard in the future this week. Nick Chubb had fumble issues last week, and I think that is why Hilliard got more looks. I can see him gathering more snaps this week against Denver, and being a viable option out of the backfield for Baker.

If Chris Conley is still on your waiver wire, grab him as soon as you can. In his last 2 games combined, he's put up 7 catches for 186 yards and a touchdown. In week 1 against KC, he had 6 catches for 97 yards and a touchdown. He's had two games this season of 20 or more fantasy points, and with Dede Westbrook hurt, Conley will step up and garner more attention in the Jacksonville passing game.

At tight end, ride the hot hand. No other TE in the league is hotter than Darren Fells. Three games above 12 fantasy points, 2 games with multiple touchdowns, and he was good for 23.8 points last week. Going up against a weaker Jacksonville defense, Watson will continue to look underneath for a safety blanket. Without Fuller, teams have been able to limit the amount of looks Hopkins has been getting. This had led Fells to gain more catches of late.

I'm going to skip right to kicker, and if he's still there, go with Mr. Reliable himself, Adam Vinatieri. He made 3 of 4 FG attempts against Denver, and two weeks ago he made 4 of 4 FG attempts against Kansas City. After a rough start to his season, he has regained his groove and has score double digits in three of his last six games. I'm not worried about bad weather in Pittsburgh because he has shown that it does not bother him at all.

This brings me to a combo pick this week. My defense pick and my homer pick of the week is the Buffalo Bills Defense. Now, I know they may not be available in some leagues, but after they laid an egg against Philly, hopefully some people have given up on them. Dwayne Haskins will be starting for the Redskins it looks like, and that is such a favorable match up for the secondary. Leslie Frazier will have a great game plan I feel, and Buffalo will cause some much needed turnovers. Don't forget about the Special Teams units as well. They have returned a kickoff for a touchdown and have blocked a couple kicks on the year. All those points count as well. This will be the week Buffalo gets back on track for the final stretch of games.

I may not be able to get my article out next week. I will try my best to get it to you guys before the Thursday night game, but I will be out of town and a little busy on account of my wedding being on Friday next week. I will do my best to give y'all the Fantasy Perks you rely on!
